Knit School - How to Cast Off

Most knitting projects end with casting off - this is how you finish your work to ensure that your stitches do not come undone. This is a very simple way to cast off so that you can finish your project neatly.

Step-by-Step Guide

Knit the first two stitches of your project so that they're on your right wand

Slip the tip of your left wand into the front of the first stitch on your right wand

Carefully pull the first stitch over the second stitch that you knitted

It should look like this as you take your left wand out of the stitch. You'll now have just one stitch on your right wand

Now knit another stitch so you have two stitches on your right wand and repeat steps 2 to 4 again until you have only one stitch left

Put your left wand down and then carefully pull your last stitch off the right wand with your fingers

Gently pull the loop of your last stitch so that it gets bigger

Thread your remaining yarn through this loop and carefully pull the end so that the loop gets smaller and becomes a knot

You have now finished your work!

Leave a length of yarn to sew up your work and cut off the rest
